Founded by Tony Ferguson in 2015, Rone Footwear specializes in skate-inspired shoes handcrafted at the highest standard. The former professional skateboarder is no stranger to the industry, as he was integral to starting the legendary Girl Skateboards in the 1990s and prior to Rone, helmed Alife’s footwear division. Today, Ferguson’s primary focus is the quality of the products he creates. Italian leathers, Goodyear welts, Vibram outsoles and artisanal production are some of the most celebrated features of Rone Footwear. This puts the Vancouver-based brand at a very unique position on the market. Ferguson himself calls it “sophisticated skateboarding with a clean fashion aesthetic”, which couldn’t be more accurate. The sleek designs can easily be worn with a suit, while the obvious nods to skate classics, such as the Vans Sk8 Hi or the Airwalk Enigma, provide the necessary cultural credibility, making it a favorite in street circles. Rone, named after Ferguson’s childhood nickname, is a testament to skateboarding’s growth as a culture and industry, maintaining the street spirit and boasting quality and craftsmanship on par with luxury fashion houses. Remembering some of the most important moments in Ferguson’s life, the storytelling within the shoes is subtle and precise at the same time. The first two models for example, the Eighty-Six and the Ninety-Three, recount the years Ferguson first stepped on a skateboard and the year they started “Girl” respectively. Looking back at more than 30 years dedicated to skate culture, Rone Footwear is Tony Ferguson’s love letter to skateboarding.
